Take off hose heads!

Its Canada Day my people! What do we think of when we hear of our great country? Touques, Donuts, 140km per hour in a blizzard, police officers in red jackets riding horses, Hockey smiles, being overly polite, back bacon, geese, oil sands, beavers, lots and lots of trees, igloos, polar bears, The best Olympic games uniforms, lacross, mountains, maple syrup, more trees and rocks, and yes of course the French.


 The past two weeks compared to others have been pretty dull. Training has been going really well. Its hard as hell, but all of us trackies agree there is nothing more fun than going fast! This weekend I was looking forward to a rare day, a day that I not only have a rest from the bike, but a day off of work thanks to it being Canada Day! Because I can go through periods of time with really nothing to write about that anyone wants to read I urge you to email me any suggestions. Wether it being about racing, travel, training, Volkswagen stuff, fixing bike stuff. Whatever. Im down to usually write about anything. jamieshankland@yahoo.ca please don't spam me.


 I was very surprised and also excited to see that a lot of my friends around the world took part in Canada Day celebrations in they're own way too. I had an interesting conversation with a "mate" just outside of Melbourne about setting up an inter club street hockey game when I get back down there and about how CFL football really is a great game, even if wearing pads makes them kinda wimpy. His words not mine. GO TIGER CATS GO!


 You know its funny. I remember being a very young Jamie at the Canada day parade in Stoney Creek, ON. celebrating Canada's 125 birthday.


 So what did I do on my day off from typical Jamie life? Really, absolutely nothing! I went for a nice and easy pedal to burn off any pain from yesterday's workout and then after that went right back to bed un till mid afternoon. I never get to do that! Shortly after I was down in White Rock to see old friends, one who just got back from Europe a few days ago. We enjoyed a low key BBQ witch is un heard of on Canada Day. Apres that headed towards the local dirt jump park in South Surrey to see what Corey of ESP had been up to in his renovations. That place has taken on a whole new life. Kinda wish I owned a DJ bike again!


 Witch brings me to now, I'm back in bed, watching Bob and Doug McKenzie's Strange Brew for the millionth time in my life. The last time I watched it was in Australia, while trying to show some of the guys that were exactly like that movie in every single way. Well with fireworks going off outside my front window I think its a great way to wish a big Happy Birthday Canada, for 145years old you sure don't show it! You're beautiful and I love you!
